Why am I seeing a "security risk" message when I try to go to a Library resource?
Answer
When you see a "not secure" message, that is your browser noticing that the link you are following has "http" instead of "https". Browsers used to show this message only if the destination pages contained sensitive input fields. However, in the last year or so, they have started serving up the message for any site that is not "https".
Many publishers of subscribed Library content have not migrated to "https" yet. It's not something the Library can control, and it doesn't necessarily mean their sites are insecure. To continue on to the resource, you have 2 options:
- Click the "Advanced" button to continue on to the site. You may be asked to add a "security exception". This means that when you encounter the same website in the future, your browser will not display a warning.
- Change your browser settings to disable this behaviour completely. Here are the instructions for doing this in Chrome, for example: https://www.technipages.com/chrome-enabledisable-not-secure-warning. Keep in mind that this will disable "not secure" messages for all sites, even if they are actually not safe.
