How do I repair corrupt libraries in EndNote?

Answer

If you have a Library that has corrupted - you are instructed to repair it.

For EndNote X9 and earlier: Go to Tools > Recover Library > follow the prompts

For EndNote 20 and later: Go to Library> Recover library > follow the prompts

Most of the time - this should resolve the issue. If it does you can delete the original/corrupt library and .data folder and rename the new one the same as the original (eg: as My EndNote Library.enl and My EndNote Library.data) and move it to the same location of the deleted one. (If it doesn't sync automatically - then re-Sync the renamed Library.)

In some cases this does not resolve the issue and you keep getting same corruption message even with any new/recovered library.

If this happens - try these Advanced Recovery Options.
