How do I remove the Endnote coding to create a plain Word document?
Answer
The EndNote in-text citations contain code that allow Word and EndNote to interact. The code can be removed to create a 'plain text' Word document. If you are submitting a thesis or an item for publication, it is best practice to remove the field codes.
To do this:
Word 2016/2013/2010/2007
Go to the EndNote Tab in Word and click on Convert Citations and Bibliography button, and then select Convert to Plain Text
Mac Word 2011
Go to the EndNote toolbar in Word and click on Bibliography: Convert to Plain Text
Pages for Mac
Open the EndNote tab, select Tools > Convert to Plain Text
You will be prompted to save this plain text document and should do so as there is no way to convert it back to a document with EndNote code.
