What is a DOI and how do I include a DOI in EndNote?

Answer

A Digital Object Identifier (or DOI) is a number that uniquely identifies and locates a particular journal article. This remains the case even if the web address or URL for the article changes. It is used as part of the journal citation in an many referencing styles, including APA 7th.

In the below example the DOI is:

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.hal.2007.11.001

Gescher, C., Metfies, K., & Medlin, L. K. (2008). The ALEX CHIP—Development of a DNA chip for identification and monitoring of Alexandrium. Harmful Algae, 7(4), 485–494. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.hal.2007.11.001

EndNote has a DOI field where you can enter the number. Enter the number e.g. 10.1016/j.hal.2007.11.001 into the DOI field and EndNote will add https://doi.org/ to the beginning.
