I need to save my EndNote library to a local drive on my Windows PC/Laptop - Where do I save my library so it is not backed up to OneDrive?
Answer
We strongly recommend saving EndNote libraries to a local drive. See Are EndNote and OneDrive (and the cloud in general) compatible with each other?
EndNote defaults to the 'Documents' Folder when you save your library for Windows Users - Documents is often backed up to OneDrive. You can check by going to your File Explorer > Click on Documents > Look at the file path at the top of the screen. It will say 'OneDrive' if it is linked.
To save to a local drive when you open EndNote for the first time:
1. In Endnote - click on Create New Library
2. In the window that pops up -on the left, scroll down to find the C:Drive and click on it.
3. Click on New Folder or right-click and New > Folder
4. Name this folder EndNote
5. Double Click on this new folder to open it
6. Give your EndNote library a name > File Name: My EndNote Library - change the 'My' to be unique to you e.g. Joe Bloggs EndNote Library
7. Click Save
Your EndNote Library is now saved in a local location.
